MADIKERI: A woman, who was upset over her daughter’s death due to illness, attempted to end her life by jumping into the Cauvery river, at Bethri village in Virajpet taluk on Friday. However, she was saved by a group of youths.
Nirmala (48), wife of Nagappa, residents of MG Colony (Dobhi Colony) at Ponnampet, was said to be depressed ever since their daughter’s death. On Friday, she arrived near Bethri village, got into the river and was sitting on a rock when she was spotted by some local youths, who rescued her.
When the youths, Younis, Sharif, Rasheed, Zameer, Kabir, Ashraf and others questioned Nirmala, she revealed that she had lost her daughter to illness and had hence, contemplated ending her life.
