MADIKERI: Two men allegedly threatened a woman to vacate her inherited house, claiming it to be waqf property, at Mullusoge village in Kushalnagar taluk. The woman has since lodged a complaint with the district police authorities.
Renuka Uthappa, who works with a private company in Bengaluru, in her complaint, said that two men entered her Mullusoge house on October 25 when she was alone at home and threatened her to vacate the property claiming it to be waqf land. She noted that the 36 cents of land on Survey No. 79/2 was purchased by her father in 1984 from Manyapanda Bopanna and that the family had been living there ever since.
Renuka said that after her parents passed away recently, she inherited the property and questioned the duo if they have any court orders or documents to prove that the land was waqf property. The duo then threatened her that 15 men were waiting at some distance and they would be called if she did not agree to hand over the property to the waqf board, she said in her complaint.
When Renuka asked the two men to leave, they warned her that she would have to visit the Sharia court in Bengaluru and prove ownership of the property, she said in the complaint. She has also appealed to the president of the federation of Kodava Samajs to help her in saving the inherited property.
The Kushalnagar police have visited the house and taken up investigation.
