CHIKKAMAGALURU: A young woman lecturer, identified as Pushpa (23), hailing from Sodethalli village in Doddaballapur taluk, committed suicide after recording a video statement before her death, accusing her husband and in-laws of harassment for dowry and a site.

Pushpa’s body was found at the Visvesvaraya Pickup Dam near Ghati on Monday, three days after she went missing.

According to the complaint, Pushpa was married to Venu from Thapasihalli village a year-and-a-half ago. After marriage, her in-laws allegedly demanded more dowry and a site and subjected her to physical and mental torture.

It is also alleged that her husband wanted to marry another woman and had even planned to poison her food. Pushpa claimed that her brother-in-law had also tried to force her into an illicit relationship.

Before her death, Pushpa recorded an 8-minute video, accusing her husband Venu, mother-in-law Bharathi, father-in-law Govindappa, and brother-in-law Narayanaswamy, among others, of harassment.

She requested that her body be cremated in front of her husband’s house and demanded justice. The police have registered a case and taken the husband and father-in-law into custody for questioning.
