Woman allegedly sexually harassed on Namma Metro, social media post goes viral

BENGALURU: A woman was allegedly sexually harassed by an unidentified person in an overcrowded Metro train in Bengaluru on Monday.  The victim’s friend shared a post on social media about the incident following which netizens expressed outrage and demanded that the victim should get justice and that the miscreant should be punished.

According to the post, the incident took place around 8:30 am on Monday in the Majestic Metro, which was overcrowded compared to other day. The woman usually goes to college by bus, but on Monday, she reached Majestic to travel by Metro.

A friend of the woman wrote about the incident on Reddit and urged the authorities concerned to take action against the culprit. After boarding the Metro, a man wearing a red shirt and standing behind her, touched her from behind, the post said. Initially, she was not aware of what was happening to her, and then she began to feel uncomfortable. He kept on misbehaving with her. When she realised what was happening, fellow passengers did not come forward to help though she asked, the post said.

The BMRCL officials clarified regarding the case. Yashwant Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer of BMRCL, responding to the incident, said, ”We need to know exact time and the train. We are already checking the CCTV footage. So far, no complaint has been registered in this regard. However, we are investigating the case and taking action. We will inquire about this. We will find the culprit soon”, he said.
