Woman accuses Challakere inspector of repeated rape; officer on the run

CHITRADURGA:  A young woman has filed a complaint with the women’s police station in Chitradurga on Sunday accusing her uncle’s son G B Umesh, police inspector at Challakere police station, of rape.

As per the complaint, the woman was raped on several occasions from September 13, 2017.

Umesh was posted as inspector in Davanagere five years ago. The complainant alleged that she was raped by Umesh when she asked for his help regarding solving an issue regarding their site in Davanagere. Umesh called her to Davanagere and raped her.

The woman claimed that she was also raped by Umesh when she was pursuing B.Ed in Shivamogga and had to undergo abortion five times.

Umesh already has two wives and was pressuring the young woman to be his third wife. He also threatened her that he would not get the Davanagere site issue resolved and that he would bring her parents to the streets, the complaint said.

Umesh was booked under several IPC sections on the charges of rape, assault, threatening, and criminal intimidation. He is absconding after the case. Meanwhile, East zone IGP Tyagarajan has issued orders suspending Umesh from service.
