With summer setting in, thieves resort to stealing water pumps

BENGALURU: With summer setting in, thieves seem to have found a new target. They have stolen many water pumps from house in JJ Nagar police limits over the last few days and the act has been caught on CCTV cameras in the area.

In the CCTV footage, groups of three to four people can be seen entering the compound of houses and stealing water pumps. They carry stones to attack people in case someone spots them committing the theft. Locals claimed that more than 25 pumps have been stolen in the two weeks. The gang stole three pumps in one night at V S Garden City.

The locals have filed a complaint with JJ Nagar police station, but the police visited the spot but no FIR was filed, they alleged.

“This is the first time thieves have stolen water pumps from Goripalya. We have filed a complaint with the police and they even visited the spot. We are waiting for more information from the police”, said Nagendra, a local resident.

Omshakthi Shashi, president of the Sri Rama Sene unit in Chamarajpet.

“For the past one month, more than 30 pumps have been stolen and many people have registered complaints at the police station. Many civic workers too reside in this area and thefts have happened in their houses too. In CCTV footage, a gang of four can be seen armed with stones in their hands to attack someone if they are spotted. No FIR has not been registered and no action has been taken so far”, alleged Omshakthi Shashi, president of Sri Rama Sene  unit in Chamarajpet.
