KOPPAL: While the country is adopting digital technologies in various spheres of life, the post office at Tavergera in Kushtagi taluk seems to be decades behind when things happened at their own pace. With no postmen to make deliveries, the office cabinets are overflowing with mail and important documents like Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and even ATM cards lie in heaps here and there without reaching the addressees.
For the last six months, important documents invitations, bank circulars, notices have been lying on the ground at the post office with no one to deliver the mails.
People who had applied for their documents are shocked after seeing the mess prevailing at the post office. Some visit the post office on their own, looking for their documents, invitations, etc. Many people may have missed important family functions, programmes or meetings. “Though we have advanced mobile phones in our hand, we are still dependent on the post office for getting government documents or benefits”, a villager pointed out.
The post office needs two postmen, but there is only one as of now. But even that postman has been frequently keeping away from work due to health issues.
Villagers are angry that the postal department has not made arrangements for delivery of their mails even after so many months, and have demanded immediate action in this regard.
