MANGALURU: Plagued with frequent problems, the staff of the Wenlock Hospital at Hampanakatta here have performed ‘Sanidhya Pratishtha’ for a Guliga Daiva on the hospital premises out of their own cost.
With the staff and workers at the Wenlock Surgical Superspecialty Hospital encountering numerous problems, they decided to conduct a ‘Prashne’ wherein it was revealed that a ‘Daiva Sanidhya’ existed on the hospital premises long ago. About 40 Dalit families were living on the land where the hospital now stands who offered prayers to a Guliga Daiva.
After the government acquired the land and rehabilitated the Dalit families, they took the Guliga Daivas with them, but left behind the ‘Daiva Sanidhya’. The ‘Guliga Daiva’ belonged to the Sharavu Maha Ganapathi temple nearby.
After coming to know of this, the hospital staff including, doctors, officers and others pooled in money and conducted ‘Punar Pratishtapana’ of the ‘Guliga Daiva’ on the hospital premises. Doctors at the hospital now say a calm environment pervades the hospital premises.
“Priests have advised to a lamp once a month, preferably on Sankramana, and conduct a ‘parva’ once a year. The Guliga is vegetarian. We are satisfied after conducting the programme and things are going on well now”, said Dr Sadananda Poojary, a urologist.
