BENGALURU: Residents of Bengaluru, beware! The city is experiencing a severe heat wave, with temperatures soaring to alarming levels. The weather department has issued a heatwave warning, advising citizens to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The temperatures expected to soar, and health experts have adivsed people to stay indoors between 12 pm and 3 pm. The heat wave is expected to be intense, and the authorities are warning people to be prepared.
To stay safe, follow these tips:
- Drink plenty of water, at least 2-3 litres a day
- Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing
- Use umbrellas or hats when stepping out, and cover your head, neck, and limbs with wet cloth if possible
- Avoid strenuous activities between 12 pm and 3 pm
- Stay hydrated with homemade drinks like lassi, sharbat, or lemonadePlan your travel during cooler hours, and carry water with you if you must travel during the day
- Avoid cooking during peak heat hours if possible.
- Keep your cooking area well-ventilated.
- Avoid wearing dark or tight clothing.
- Take regular breaks if you work outdoors.
- Stay in shaded areas as much as possible.
Vulnerable groups include infants and young children, senior citizens, pregnant women and people working outdoors. Those with mental health issues or pre-existing medical conditions, especially heart disease and high blood pressure, should be extra cautious and take necessary precautions to stay safe. The weather department is urging everyone to prioritize their health during this heatwave.
