BENGALURU: City police commissioner B Dayananda on Wednesday said the city police have been successful in cracking down on suspected terror elements and added that the crackdown on terror elements will continue.

Briefing the media after the arrest of five suspected terrorists, the police chief said, “The prime terror suspect Junaid Ahmed is now abroad.  He came in contact with LeT terrorist T Nazir in Parappana Agrahara jail. T Nazir was involved in a serial bomb blast in 2008”.

“There is the possibility that one person influenced others in jail. We are looking into whether any new organisations have cropped up. The suspects were getting funding from abroad including through different digital channels like Google Pay. More details and a clearer picture will be known after the arrest of Nazir”, the police chief added.

Regarding weapon training, the police commissioner said the interrogation was still going on. All of them are involved in criminal activities and were doing odd jobs”, the commissioner said.

“Junaid is the prime accused in the 2017 murder case of R T Nagar resident Noor Ahmed. He is involved in small businesses. Investigation has revealed that that funding has been done by a foreigner who is living abroad now. He sends money through various channels, and investigation is going on. We are already in touch with Central agencies”, he said.

“All the accused were between the ages from 25 to 35 years. About 21 accused had been jailed in the Noor Ahmed murder case. They came in contact with Nazir while serving their jail terms. All have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act”, the police chief informed.
