BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), in a test conducted recently, has found that Bengaluru’s lakes are so polluted that aquatic life cannot survive. The water in the city’s lakes were tested in July and 41 lakes were found to be polluted as per the report available with Public TV.
While the IT city is growing on the one hand, pollution is increasing on the other. Along with the growth, air, noise pollution and water pollution are also increasing. The effluents from factories are being let out into lake and rivers rendering the water unsuitable for drinking.
The KSPCB tests, conducted in July, reveal that 41 lakes are dangerously contaminated, leading to a large deaths of aquatic species, and the water is not at all suitable for drinking.
The lakes are polluted more in Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, Yelahanka and Dasarahalli zones. The major lakes are Bellandur lake, Varthur lake, Mahadevpura lake, Seegehalli lake, Munenakolalu lake, Lalbagh lake, Kempabhudi lake, Uttarahalli lake, Shivpura lake, Jakkur lake and Chikka Banavara lake.
Following the report, citizens are demanding that the city’s lakes should be protected from pollution and strict action should be taken against factories discharging effluents into lakes.
