BENGALURU: Traffic congestion in the city is increasing, and the number of traffic signals is also rising. Additionally, the waiting time at signals is also increasing.
As Bengaluru city grows, traffic congestion is increasing. The traffic problem is worsening, and the number of traffic signals is also increasing to manage the traffic. Until 2019, there were 300 traffic signals. Later, 50 more traffic signals were installed. Now, another 52 new traffic signals are being installed. With this, the total number of traffic signals in the city is increasing to 402.
There are 65 traffic signals in Bengaluru Central Division, 56 in Bengaluru East, 38 in Bengaluru North, 86 each in Bengaluru South and Northeast Division, 36 in Southeast Division and 35 in Bengaluru West Division.
The waiting time at traffic signals has also been increased. In many places including Goraguntepalya, Shankar Math signals and KR Circle, the waiting time has been increased to 200 seconds. In some cases, like Goraguntepalya, the waiting time can be seen up to 8 minutes.
The increase in wait time at traffic signals, owing to rising vehicle numbers, has not only increased travel time, but also led to more frustration among motorists in Bengaluru which is already notorious for its traffic jams.
