BENGALURU: The Vyalikaval Road in the city from Vinayak Nagar Circle to Vyalikaval police station, will remain closed for a month due to the ongoing construction of a massive stormwater drain (SWD) by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
The road, which connects several areas including Sankey Road, Malleswaram and Sadashivanagar, has been closed since the construction began. The road closure has caused inconvenience to commuters, especially those traveling to Malleswaram and Sadashivanagar, by BMTC buses.
The BBMP has requested the public to use alternative routes to avoid delays. The construction of the stormwater drain is expected to be completed soon, and the road will be reopened once the work is finished.
Barricades were set up on road with banners to prevent vehicle movement. The BBMP has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and has sought public cooperation during the construction period.
Auto driver Rakesh expressed outrage at BBMP work, saying that citizens are suffering due to the unscientific way of working and digging up the road. “The road has completely blocked and creating problems for all. For some passengers, this is the only way to reach their house. But there is no alternate route for them and they have to walk till their house”, he pointed out.
Pushpavalli, an auto passenger, said, “We are suffering every day. For senior citizens like us, it is difficult to go out. The drain was damaged six months ago and the BBMP needs to speed up work. The road has been closed for a month”.
