BENGALURU: Much to the chagrin of women and children, voyeurs have been preying on them near the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) swimming pool at Vijayanagara.

The BBMP has constructed swimming pools at more than five places in the eight zones of the city. Women and children practice in separate batches at these swimming pools. Citizens are outraged that Peeping Toms take videos and pictures of women and children while they swim in the pool.

Pool users have to pay Rs 50 for an hour in the swimming pool and coaching costs Rs 4,100 per person for a three-week duration.

The Vijayanagara swimming pool was constructed by the BBMP in 1998 and for the last four years, the contractor has been taking care of its maintenance. The compound wall of the swimming pool is adjacent to a public park. Pool users allege that voyeurs use the stone bench inside the park to peep into the pool area and prey on women and children while they swim in the pool.

“We have received complaints about the voyeurs annoying women and children from inside the public park. They climb the stone bench and peep into the pool and prey on women and children. In other parts, the wall is heightened. We will raise the sheet on the park side wall as well”, said Narayan, a staffer at the BBMP swimming pool in Vijayanagara.
