BENGALURU: The Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan train, the first in the state and South India, offers pilgrims a eight-day trip to holy places like Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya.

The special train, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru City Railway Station in the city on Friday, is a collaborative effort of the Muzrai department of the state government and the Union government.

While the total cost of the trip is Rs 20,000 per person, the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 5,000. Food, accommodation and other facilities are provided for pilgrims during the trip.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Union Law and Parliamentary, Mines and Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi, state Muzrai, Haj and Wakf Minister Shasikala Jolle, Bengaluru MPs P C Mohan, Tejaswi Surya and others were present on the occasion.
