KALABURAGI: The Kalaburagi police have transferred the case related to inmates of the central jail here getting VIP treatment to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police for further investigation.
After Public TV telecast a report on the goings-on inside the jail, the police commissioner had led a raid and two mobile phones, cigarettes and gutka packets had been seized from some of the inmates. The police had also booked a case against seven inmates including Sagar, Vishal and Sonu, who had circulated the video.
Meanwhile, the Prisons department is also conducting an internal inquiry into the issue. On Friday, Prisons Department SP Yashodha Vantagodi, who is the investigating officer, visited the Kalaburagi central prison.
Later, speaking to media persons, she said, “A detailed investigation will be carried out into whatever was shown in the media. A report will be submitted and the DIG will take further action. The government will decide if any officers have to be transferred”.
The officer also collected information about the honeytrap and blackmail that was being conducted by Zulfikar and gang from the jail. She spoke to the jail superintendent and staff regarding the issue.
An inmate, Sagar, made video calls as part of the honeytrap and demanded Rs 50,000 to cover it up. He also made use of the issue to blackmail jail staff, it is learnt.
