Villagers protest against illegal liquor sale in houses, vent ire at Excise department

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Angered by the rising addiction to liquor and also the sale of illegal liquor at houses, villagers, especially women and children, protested against the negligence of the Excise Department in Gejjalanatta village of Hanur taluk.

Many villagers are daily-wage labourers who are addicted to alcohol, and families in the village are pushed to penury. The atmosphere in the village is being destroyed due to the illegal sale of liquor in the houses, they alleged.

A complaint has been registered by a women’s organisation with the Ramapura police to curb the sale of liquor.
