Villagers oppose stone-crushing unit in close proximity to village, block trucks

Villagers blocking the truck were forcefully evicted by associates of the stone crusher owner.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Residents of Agatagowdahalli in Gundlupet taluk have strongly opposed setting up of a stone-crushing unit barely 300 metres from the village. On Thursday, they vented their anger by blocking a truck which entered the fields.

A pandal erected by the villagers was pulled down.

The stone crusher has been set up by one A Madhusudhan on 2.18 acres of land claiming to set up an industrial unit. The villagers have strongly opposed the operation of the stone-crushing unit in close proximity to the village.

On Thursday, the villagers, with portraits of Dr B R Ambedkar, laid down in front of the truck, leading to a confrontation with the associates of the crushing unit owner. It is alleged that some of the villagers were assaulted and the Ambedkar portraits were snatched and thrown away.

Some of the injured are undergoing treatment at the Begur government hospital. The incident occurred in Begur police limits.
