DAVANAGERE: With the Sun blazing down in the middle of the summer and water bodies drying up, villagers of Hanumantanagar in Channagiri taluk have constructed a tank in the Ubrani forest and fill it up with water for the benefit of animal.

Due to the intense heat, many water bodies have dried up and animals and birds are finding it difficult to find water. Moved by the plight of the animals, villagers of Hanumantanagar built a tank in the forest and carry pots of water into the forest every day to fill it up so that animals don’t have to face problems. The initiative by the villagers has drawn appreciation from people all around.

One of the villagers said, “We have always been concerned about nature and when there are forest fires during summer, we join forces with the Forest Department and Fire and Emergency Services to put out the blaze. With no water now due to the drought-like conditions, animals are destroying our crops”.

“The animals and birds are not even able to find water to drink, and seeing their plight, the members of the Sri Kukudeshwari Seva Samithi trust are making arrangements for water for the benefit of the animals. The government should take action to desilt tanks and ponds in the forest”, he added.
