The traffic jam stretched for over 2 km on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

RAMANAGARA: Traffic on the 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru highway was held up for about half an hour after villagers staged a snap protest near Kempegowdana Doddi due to increasing number of accidents on the service road due to ‘unscientific’ planning. This resulted in a traffic jam running to about 2 km.

Villagers blocked one carriageway of the highway.

The trigger for the protest was an accident on the service road in which a man lost both his legs. Angry villagers gathered on the highway and blocked traffic demanding that officials of Dilip Buildcon Ltd visit the spot. They even demanded that speed breakers should be installed at different places to reduce accidents.

Traffic was held up for more than half an hour.

The villagers relented only after the Ramanagar Rural police visited the spot and convinced the protesters. The police later managed to clear the traffic. A case has been registered at the Ramanagara traffic police station.
