BELAGAVI: A group of villagers barged into the Adavisiddeshwara Math at Shivapura village in Mudalagi taluk on Sunday, manhandled Adavisiddarama Swami and harassed a woman and her 15-year-old daughter who were staying in the math.

The woman, who hails from Bagalkot, had come to the math on Saturday along with her 15-year-old daughter and stayed overnight. Accusing Adavisiddarama Swami of inappropriate behaviour, a group of villagers barged into the math, manhandled the godman and threatened the woman and her daughter on Sunday.

When the godman tried to shield the woman-daughter duo from the mob, some youths also slapped him. The villagers then forced the godman and the woman-daughter duo out of the math on Sunday night alleging inappropriate behaviour.

The villagers also tore the young girl’s jacket and pulled away the mother’s dupatta. The Mudalagi police, who arrived on the scene, got the villagers to vacate the ashram premises, had a word with the woman and sent her away. However, no case was registered.
