BENGALURU: In a surprise development, BJP state vice-president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday visited ‘Keshava Krupa’, the state headquarters of the RSS in Chamarajpet and held discussions with senior RSS functionaries. On the occasion of Ramanavami, he also offered prayers before a portrait of Lord Rama kept at the office.
The meeting comes amidst speculation that Vijayendra may be pitted against Congress leader Siddaramaiah in Varuna constituency. Sources said the RSS leaders have earlier held discussions about Vijayendra contesting from Varuna constituency.
It is said that Thursday’s meeting was to discuss strategies to ensure Siddaramaiah’s defeat from Varuna constituency and that the RSS will lend its support to Vijayendra and the BJP. It may be recalled that Siddaramaiah had spoken against the RSS and Hindutva on several occasions in the past.
Meanwhile, Vijayendra’s father and former CM B S Yediyurappa, while addressing a press conference, only said that discussions have been held, but quickly added, “The decision on fielding candidates will be taken by the party high command and we all will abide by it”.
