Vellore police rescue child stolen from hospital, arrest woman from Chikkaballapur

CHIKKABALLAPUR: The Vellore police from Tamil Nadu on Thursday arrested a woman and rescued a child which she had stolen from a government hospital in that town. The woman was living with her relative in Chikkaballapur.

The arrested Ammu had been married for eight years, but had been issueless and was upset over this. On July 28, she stole a male child from the Vellore government hospital, put it in a bag and escaped to Chikkaballapur where she was living with a relative in CMC Layout.

The infant was checked at the hospital.

The Vellore police arrested Ammu and the car driver and rescued the three-day-old baby boy. The infant was taken to the women and child hospital for examination where Dr Rachan Reddy said it had developed mild jaundice. “The child was brought to the hospital around 9.30 am today by the Vellore police. The child was delivered in Vellore on July 28 and brought here the next day”, the doctor said.

He further said the baby healthy with normal heart rate and breathing, but since there were signs of mild jaundice, blood samples have been sent for tests. “Based on the result, we will hand over the child to the police”, he added.
