BENGALURU: Vegetable prices have surged due to incessant rainfall two weeks ago. Beans, white brinjal, capsicum, and other vegetables have become expensive. A kilogram of beans costs Rs 100 at vegetable stores but is priced at Rs 117 per kg at at Hopcoms outlets.
The prices of many vegetables, including white brinjal and capsicum, have become expensive since last week. The actual price of white brinjal, which used to be Rs 40-50, has now doubled. One kg of white brinjal is Rs 88 at Hopcoms, while capsicum has also crossed Rs 100.
The prices of beetroot and carrots are also on an upward trend. Good quality green leaves are not in the market due to rain and leafy greens like coriander, spinach and fenugreek are also pricier, with prices ranging from Rs 30-40 per bunch.
Tomato prices increased from Rs 22 to Rs 29 per kg due to crop damage in Kolar and Chikkaballapur. Egg prices increased from Rs 6 to Rs 7 each, and yelakki banana prices reached Rs 93 per kg. Prices are expected to drop further after July 1, with the start of the Ashadha month.
The prices of various vegetables are as follows: Beans (Rs 117 per kg), white brinjal (Rs 88 per kg, capsicum-Rs 102 per kg, jalapeno-Rs 70, drumstick-Rs 138 per kg, one cauliflower-Rs 40, Tomato-Rs 29 per kg , Bittergourd-Rs 64 per kg; egg—Rs 7 each, lady’s finger-Rs 48 per kg, A bundle of coriander leaves-Rs 82, Fenugreek leaves-Rs 89, Dantu-Rs 62 and yelakk banana—Rs 93 per kg.
