Upa Lokayukta Veerappa pays for new bulb at Mandya Rural panchayat office, chides staff

The Upa Lokayukta took the gram panchayat officials to task over unsigned documents and lack of lighting.

MANDYA: Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa, who visited the Mandya Rural gram panchayat office on Monday evening, vented his anger at the panchayat development officer over lack of lighting on the stairway. The Upa Lokayukta then paid from his pocket to buy a new bulb.

Justice Veerappa took out a Rs 100 note from his wallet and paid for a new bulb.

The Upa Lokayukta, who inspected documents related the progress of works, including drainage and lighting in the villages, took the PDO G S Sunil Kumar to task over the lack of signatures of the panchayat president on the documents. “The gram panchayat president too is a government servant”, Justice Veerappa remarked.

The Upa Lokayukta was also upset over the lack of lighting in the stairway of the building and paid Rs 80 from his pocket for a new bulb. “Let me share my salary to this panchayat office. At least then, you people will learn something”.
