Upa Lokayukta inspects hostel, BRIMS in Ballari, takes officials to task over poor facilities

Upa Lokayukta Justice (retd) B Veerappa has a word with the hostel inmates on Saturday morning.

BALLARI: Upa Lokayukta Justice (retd) B Veerappa on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the Dr B R Ambedkar government post-matric hostel for SC, ST boys near the old court house here and took the officials to task over the poor facilities.

The Upa Lokayukta vented his anger over the poor condition of the building, mattresses provided to the students, the drainage system, toilets and the quality of food being provided. He directed the officials to set things right in one month’s time.

The students told the Upa Lokayukta that they are made to clean the toilets and wash linen. They also said outsiders consume alcohol on the roof and assault them. Justice Veerappa also hauled up the officials over lack of security, hot water for bathing and other basic facilities. He also directed the authorities to suspend the hostel warden and the deputy director of the social welfare department.

Justice Veerappa also visited the BRIMS hospital and checked on the facilities. He also spoke to the patients and their attendants. Some of the patients complained of lack of facilities and that they are forced to buy medicines from outside.

The Upa Lokayukta took the hospital doctors and pharmacists to task and directed the hospital director Gangadhar to suspend the erring staff.
