TUMAKURU: The Kunigal police have arrested five people, including an unwed couple and an anganwadi worker, on charges of child trafficking.
The arrested are the child’s mother Monisha (21), father Srinand (24), anganwadi worker Jyothi (45), Mubarak Pasha (36), who bought the child, and Srinand’s friend Jyothi (32).
Srinand and Monisha hail from Magadi in Ramanagara district, but are not married. On February 20, Monisha delivered a child at the Kunigal taluk hospital and the couple sold the child through Jyothi.
The issue came to light when Monisha returned home after the deliver and the Women and Child Development Department officials had lodged a complaint in this regard.
