MANGALURU: Some unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to derail trains running between Mangaluru and Kerala, at Thokkottu in Ullal taluk. The incident has created panic among locals and passengers.

As per sources, two miscreants placed stones on the railway tracks on both sides and fled. Locals were scared when they heard a loud noise around midnight near the Thokkottu railway track. Two women from the nearby Overbridge residential area spotted the miscreants.

As per locals, they heard a loud noise when one train passed towards Kerala. Following this, a loud noise was heard again when another train passed. This caused significant vibrations in some nearby houses, leading locals to suspect a train accident.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that gravel stones placed on the tracks were broken. Local residents informed the Railway police station and Ullal police station.

There is a suspicion about a conspiracy of sabotage, particularly after a recent warning from a terrorist Farhatullah Ghori, the mastermind of the 2002 Akshardham blast and The Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru, to derail trains across India.

The police are investigating the incident, and security has been tightened in the area.
