Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s car crashes with truck near Vijayapura

VIAJAYAPURA: The car of  Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, met with an accident near Jumanala village in Vijayapura district on Thursday.

The Union Minister was travelling in a car when it collided with the Mitsubishi Canter truck on the Vijayapura-Hubballi National Highway. The minister and the car driver sustained minor injuries. Sadhvi Niranjana Jyoti and the car driver have been shifted to the district hospital. The police said that no one was seriously injured.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi participated in a BJP women’s convention and other events held in Vijayapura on Thursday. After the programmes, she was traveling to Bagalkot when the accident occurred. As a result of the accident, there was a traffic jam on NH 50. Vijayapura Rural police visited the place and smooth movement of vehicles. The incident took place at the Vijayapura Rural police limits.

Speaking to the Public TV, the Union Minister said,” By God’s grace, we sustained only minor injuries. I sustained minor injuries in the head and leg in the accident, and CT scans have been done. There were no serious injuries. The driver too suffered head and leg injuries. Due to the driver’s control, we escaped with minor injuries. No one needs to panic and I am fine and able to walk.”

Due to the impact, the truck overturned while the front of the minister’s car was badly damaged. It is said that the truck driver was drunk at the time of the accident and has been taken into police custody. Further investigation is under way.
