Unhealthy and unhygenic sweets being sold to bakeries in Gadag-Betageri

GADAG: The sweets supplied to bakeries in the twin cities of Gadag-Betageri are being prepared at a premises in an unhygienic environment, using expired and hazardous materials, a sting operation conducted by Public TV has revealed.

The investigation revealed that the sweets are being prepared using low-quality ingredients, including expired Dalda (vegetable fat) and chemical-laced colours. These sweets can cause serious health issues, including cancer, blood pressure, diabetes and heart attacks.

The sweets being prepared include Barfi, Kavapeda, Horlicks peda, Mothichoor laddu, Dharwad peda, Badusha, Doodh peda, Jamun, Jalebi, Jahangir, Besan laddu, and more. The use of expired and hazardous materials in these sweets is alarming, and pose a health risk to consumers.

The sting operation also found that the bakery items are being prepared with rancid oil, similar to tar. Moreover, labourers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are involved in the preparation of these sweets, and the investigation revealed that chemical substances are being used.

Furthermore, a large quantity of Ksheera Bhagya milk powder packets meant for poor children in anganwadis and government schools was found at the premises. This raises suspicions of a largescale scam.

The investigation was led by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials, and the findings are shocking. The exposed bakeries are a threat to public health, and action is expected to be taken against those responsible. Public TV’s sting operation has busted the racket, revealing the those involved in this scandal.
