BENGALURU: Hours after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot granted sanction for prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged MUDA site allotment scam, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has termed it as unconstitutional and against the principles of democracy.

Addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said, “The notice reeks of hatred and was sent by the governor’s secretary. Just two days ago, we celebrated Independence Day and yesterday, we celebrated Varamahalakshmi Vratha. But today morning, the governor has sanctioned the prosecution and sent the notice through his secretary”.

Further, he said, “The cabinet had already decided that the complaint should be rejected and the recommendation was sent to the Raj Bhavan. The governor did not give assent for prosecution of H D Kumaraswamy, has not taken any decision on prosecution of Janardhana Reddy, Murugesh Nirani or Shashikala Jolle, but he has sent a notice to the CM seeking reply in 24 hours”.

Calling upon all Congress MLAs to stand by the CM, Shivakumar said they will fight against the sanction for prosecution both legally and politically. “This notice is against the Constitution and against rules. They cannot tolerate a backward classes leader. The governor should not have become a mouthpiece of the BJP. The entire Congress and INDI Alliance is with CM Siddaramaiah and there is no question of him resigning. He will remain the CM”, Shivakumar said.

“They are jealous because we are distributing benefits to people worth Rs 56,000 crore. This government cannot be dislodged for whatever reason”, the Deputy CM asserted. Ministers Parameshwara, Priyank Kharge, Byrathi Suresh, M C Sudhakar, K J George, H C Mahadevappa and others were present.
