MYSURU: A week after the Udayagiri violence, wherein a mob pelted stones at the police station leaving several policemen injured, only 20 people have been arrested so far. Identifying the culprits has become a Herculean task for the police.

After audio messages were shared on WhatsApp groups, many of the accused have left behind their phones at home and are now missing. This has made the job of the police more difficult though their have the names and addresses of the accused. Also, Moulvi Mushtaq, who incited the mob, has also remained untraced.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the bail plea of the arrested accused, Satish, whose social media post had allegedly led to the violence, has been put offf by the second additional civil court.

Last Saturday, the prosecution lawyer H M Bhaskar had sought more time to present arguments. On the other hand, the lawyer for Satish had argued that the police have not placed on record any documents related to the arrest or how the post hurt the sentiments of one community. He also pointed out that the phone from which the image was posted had already been seized by the police.
