SHIVAMOGGA: Two girl students fell off their college buildings in separate cases here on Tuesday. While one girl died, the other is battling for life in hospital.
Meghashree (18), a PU II student at the Adichunchanagiri college at Sharavati Nagar here, ended her life by jumping off the college building as she was reportedly home sick. She was immediately rushed to McGann Hospital by the college authorities, but was declared dead.
Meghashree hailed from Channapura village in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district. She was staying in the college hostel and was to write her biology test today. She reportedly told her friends that she would go to the washroom, went to the top of the building and jumped to her death.
Meghashree’s parents, who arrived at the college, were initially not allowed inside. The father Omkaraiah vented his anger by kicking the gate and only later were they allowed inside.
The parents blamed the hostel warden, lecturers and the college management for the death of their daughter. A tense atmosphere prevailed as Kannada activists too arrived at the college and staged protest. Deputy SP Suresh visited the spot and the police enhanced security at the college.
In another incident, Rachana (18), a student of PESIT, slipped and fell from the second floor of the college building after she suddenly felt unwell. With serious injuries, she was rushed to McGann Hospital where she is battling for life.
Rachana hails from Ajjampura in Chikkamagalur district and is a first-year BSc student at PESIT college.
