Two kidnappers shot at after three policemen injured in escape bid near Yellapur

KARWAR: The police opened fire at two kidnappers and arrested them after they attacked three policemen in their bid to escape, near Doginala in Yellapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Thursday night.

Two days ago, three men had kidnapped one Zameer of Mundagod and had demanded a ransom of Rs 35 lakh. After they got Rs 18 lakh towards the ransom, they had dropped off Zameer near the Gadag Ring Road in Haveri district and fled. Later, the police had apprehended the three kidnappers from Belagavi.

While the kidnappers were being brought back, two of them escaped. The police intercepted them near Doginala on the Haliyal road when the duo attacked three policemen with sharp weapons. The police then shot them in the leg and arrested them. The accused are Rahim Allauddin of Hubballi and Ajay of Mundagod.

The injured police personnel are Mundagod police inspector Ranganath Neelammanavar, PSO Parashuram and Yellapur constable Shafi Shaik. They have been admitted to the Yellapur hospital while the wounded accused have been admitted to KRIMS.
