KOLAR: Two girls, both aged 13, who went missing on October 2 after going out of their house to relieve themselves, were found dead in a well, at Kuppanapalya village on Saturday.

The bodies of Chaitrabai and Dhanyabai were found in a well belonging to farmer Lakshminarayana of the same village. The police, who have launched an investigation after registering a case, have collected evidence, including a broken hundi (a donation box) and the girls’ footwear, which were found at different locations near the well. Police said the post-mortem report is awaited to determine the cause of death.

The families of the girls are suspecting foul play and have alleged that the girls were murdered and thrown into the well. The families have expressed shock and grief over the incident, and a large crowd of villagers had gathered at the scene.

The police have assured the families that they will conduct a thorough investigation and take action based on the findings. They have also reviewed CCTV footage and are analyzing evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the girls’ deaths.

“The girls had gone missing from Yelachenapalli village on October 2 and their bodies were found in an open well on a mango orchard about 1.5 km from the village. Based on the family’s complaint, we will proceed with the investigation. We have not found anything suspicious for now, but we have to wait for the post-mortem report and we will then decide on the next course of action”, said Police Superintendent Nikhil B.

“The family members have said that the girls would go out of the house often and return after some time. At the outset, there seems to be no suspicion”, he added.
