CHIKKODI: Even as the number of patients affected by Guillain Barre Syndrome is increasing in Maharashtra and the death toll rising, two people from Belagavi who were in the neighbouring state have succumbed to the disease.
The deceased were identified as Balagouda Patil of Donewadi village in Nipani taluk and a 14-year-old boy from Hukkeri taluk. However, the health authorities in Karnataka have so far not confirmed the deaths. The boy is said to have died four days ago.
Sangli and Kolhapur districts in Maharastra, which border Belagavi, have together recorded 31 cases of GBS and five deaths. Of the affected, more than 10 are being treated in ICUs. While Sangli has recorded 16 GBS cases and two deaths, Kolhapur has registered 21 cases and three deaths.
