CHAMARAJANAGAR: Two farmers were electrocuted to death by a low-hanging power line when they were travelling on a motorcycle at Ayyanapura village in the taluk on Wednesday. The deceased are Nagendra and Mallesh.
After dinner on Wednesday, the two had gone to the fields, but did not return and their phones too had switched off. On Thursday morning, they were found dead on the road with the high-tension power line across the neck of the rider. The villagers accused Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) officials of murder due to negligence.
The incident is believed to have occurred when the two farmers were returning home. The villagers staged a protest demanding that the district deputy commissioner visit the spot and would not budge despite appeals by SP Kavitha and Assistant Commissioner Mahesh.
Finally, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag visited the village and consoled the families of the deceased farmers. She also assured a job for one member of each of the two families at CESC and Rs 5 lakh compensation after which the protesting villagers relented and allowed the last rites of the deceased farmers.
