Two elephants die after falling into trenches in separate incidents

One of the elephants was blind in one eye.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Two wild elephants died after getting trapped in trenchs. While one died in the Omkar range of the Bandipur tiger reserve in Gundlupet taluk, the other died near Mallahalli close to Kellupura village in Nanjangud taluk.

The post-morterm report of the elephant which died in Bandipur forest revealed that it had died of heart attack and suffocation, forest officials said. Also, the elephant was completely blind in one eye and may not have notice the trench, they said.

In the other case, the elephant was said to be about 40 years old and may have strayed towards human habitation in search of food.
