Two die in separate accidents, villagers stage protest

TUMAKURU: Two people died in separate accidents in the district in a span of 24 hours. In one of the cases, villagers staged a protest demanding better roads.

On Wednesday night, Mohan of Togarugunte died after his two-wheeler hit a pothole near Lingadahali Gate on the Sira-Amarapura road. On Thursday, villagers from Togarugunte and surrounding villages staged a protest with this portrait, blocking the road.

Traffic flow was affected for some time on the Sira-Amarapura road.

Public Works Department AEE Ramesh, Deputy SP Shekar and other officials rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers. They also promised to fix the potholed road in the next three days.

In another incident, an 18-year-old youth on a motorcycle died after it collided with a goods vehicle near Dommatamari village in Pavagada taluk. Two others who were riding on the two-wheeler sustained injuries and were admitted to the district hospital in Tumakuru where their condition is said to be serious.

The youths were on their way from Reddypalli to Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh. The goods vehicle driver fled the spot along with the vehicle after the accident. The Pavagara Rural police have registered the case and are on the lookout for the good vehicle and its driver.
