Two die in ghastly accident on elevated airport road

BENGALURU: Two people died in a ghastly accident on the Airport Road flyover late on Monday night and a BMTC Volvo bus driver was seriously injured and has been admitted to a private hospital.

The deceased are Kuldeep Kumar (42), driver of a cement mixer truck, and Jagdish (40), who was driving a Toyota Innova MUV. The Yelahanka traffic police is trying to contact the relatives of the deceased.

The drivers of the cement mixer and Innova car were engaged in an argument on the flyover near Yelahanka around 11.25 pm. A BMTC Volvo bus (No 57E2392), which was going from Hebbal to Devanahalli, went at high speed and hit the truck, which then hit the Innova from behind.

As a result, the front partion of the bus was completely crushed. Fortunately, the number of casualties was minimal as there was only one passenger in the bus which was going to the airport. Kuldeep died on the spot while Jagadish was taken to Ashwini Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, but doctors confirmed that he died as he did not responded for the treatment.

The Yelahanka traffic police, who have registered a case regarding the incident, removed the Innova car, cement bulker truck and Volvo BMTC bus using a crane and seized them. The road was then cleared for other motorists.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Northeast, Anita Haddannavar said, “The incident unfolded when a cement truck collided with an Innova car, causing the two vehicles to stop on the right side of the flyover. While the drivers were engaged in an argument, a speeding BMTC Volvo bus came from behind and collided with the truck. The front part of the bus was completely crushed. Yelahanka traffic police have registered the case. The Yelahanka traffic police are currently working to identify the deceased”.
