BENGALURU: Two people died while three others are in serious condition after an LPG cylinder exploded in a house near the Adakamaranahalli overhead tank near Nelamangala on April 28. The deceased were identified as Nagaraj and Srinivas, both aged about 50, and one of the injured is said to be in critical condition.

Nagaraj and his family, including his wife Lakshmi Devi (35) and sons Basanagouda (19) and Abhishek Gouda (18), were living in a rented house belonging to Gangaiah for the last two years. The family hailed from Ballari and Nagaraj was a contractual employee with Himalaya Drug Company.

Footage from CCTV shows neighbours running helter-skelter as the cylinder explodes.

On the day of the incident, Nagaraj had lit a lamp in the puja room before setting out for work and his son Abhishek was changing an empty LPG cylinder. At this time, gas leaked and the house caught fire. Nagaraj, Lakshmi Devi, Basanagouda and Abhishek were trapped and locals rushed to their rescue and shifted them to Victoria Hospital. Abhishek, Shivashankar and Lakshmi Devi are currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

A relative, Basavaraj, said, “The incident occurred when my uncle was heading out for work. Since one LPG cylinder was empty, they were changing it when it caught fire and exploded. Abhishek is in critical condition in hospital”.
