BENGALURU: Two labourers died and another was injured after the earth caved in at an construction site at Siddartha Colony in Madiwala near Koramangala on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Lal Madan (33) and Rajuddin (35). Another labourer, Saifulla (28), who injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
All three labourers hailed from Jharkhand and the construction work had been ongoing for three months. On Wednesday, a 20-foot-deep pit was dug to construct a pillar, and eight workers were working on the site.
Suddenly, the mudslide occurred, trapping three workers under the debris. Due to the mudslide, the cellar and compound wall of a five-story building next to the construction site have developed cracks, which is now in danger of collapsing.
The police and fire department reached the scene, and the construction work has been halted. The bodies of the deceased laborers were sent to St John’s Hospital for post-mortem examination.The Madiwala police are investigating the incident and gathering information about the building contractor and owner.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Division) Sara Fatima is overseeing the investigation. The police are trying to determine the cause of the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
