Two dead, five injured in separate accidents in Karnataka

BIDAR, BALLARI, HUBBALLI, CHAMARAJANAGAR: Two people died and four persons were injured in separate accidents in different parts of the state on Monday.

Forty-year-old Kareema Begum died after the two-wheeler she was riding pillion on with her husband collided with a lorry near Tadol village in Basavakalyan taluk on Monday. Kareema and her husband Rafi were on their way from Basavakalyan to Rajeshwara village when the accident occurred.

The injured Rafi was rushed to the taluk hospital in Basavakalyan. Kareema hailed from Bhuyyar village in Chincholi taluk. A case has been registered at the Basavakalyan traffic police station.

A teacher at a private school died after his motorcycle skidded and fell near Benakallu village in Hagaribommanahalli taluk of Vijayanagar district. The deceased is Nijaguna (50), a resident of Ramapura.

Nijaguna was on his way from Kottur to Hagaribommanahalli when his motorcycle skidded at a curve as he was at high speed. The Hagaribommanahalli police visited the spot and shifted the body to hospital for autopsy.

A drunk tractor driver ploughed the vehicle into a shop, leaving two people who were inside, badly injured. The tin shed near the Gangubai music school at Kaveri Nagar in Hubballi, was also completely damaged.

The injured were shifted to the KIMS hospital and the Hubballi East traffic police have registered a case. The tractor was later pulled out.

A private bus and a goods vehicle collided head-on near Maddayyanahundi on the Gundlupet-Kerala road, leaving three people seriously injured. Both vehicles were badly damaged due to the impact of the collision.

The injured were shifted to the government hospital in Gundlupet. Of late, the highway passing through Gundlupet, which connects to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, has been witnessing many accidents and locals have demanded that the road be widened and steps be taken to curb mishaps.
