DAVANAGERE: Two Dalit women farmers attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after crops on their land was destroyed by revenue and forest officials at Korachara Hatti in Machihalli of Harapanahalli taluk. They are now recovering in hospital.

On Sunday, the Harapanahalli tahsildar and forest officials had destroyed standing crops on the land the women were cultivating. Upset over the alleged harassment, Lokamma and Durgamma attempted suicide.

They were rushed to the government hospital in Harapanahalli by other villagers where they are now recovering. The villagers have demanded that the women should be compensated for loss of their crops.
