Two children among four to survive rain-related mishaps, two dead

MANGALURU: Four people, including two children, had a lucky escape while two others died in separate rain-related incidents in Dakshina Kannada district and neighbouring Kasargod in Kerala.

Two children, who got stuck under a pile of mud after the earth caved in near their house, were rescued by their father at Jainaraguri near Bannur in Puttur taluk early on Thursday.

Majeed and his two children were sleeping room in their house when the earth caved in, damaging the walls. Majeed, who woke up, realised his children had got stuck under the mud quickly rescued them. The civic officials later visited the spot and cleared the caved-in mud.

Two autorickshaw drivers died after coming in contact with a snapped live wire near Rosario school in Mangaluru on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Raja and Devaraj.

Raja and Devaraju were electrocuted to death.

One of them was cleaning his autorickshaw in the morning when he came in contact with a live power line which had snapped due to overnight rain and wind. The other driver rushed to his aid, but he too was electrocuted and both died. The incident occurred in Padeshwara police limits.

The car was washed away in the flowing water.

At Pallanji-Pandia in neighbouring Kasargod district of Kerala, two men had a lucky escape after their car fell into a stream while crossing a bridge which had no parapet walls. due to the strong currents the car was washed away.

The two occupants of the car saved themselves.

However, the two occupants, Rashid and Tasrif, managed to jump into the water and saved themselves from being washed away by clinging to a tree. Rescue personnel later arrived on the scene and shifted them to safety.
