Two arrested for sexual assault on Class 2 student in Manvi taluk, villagers stage protest

RAICHUR: Two people, including the head of a private school, were arrested and booked under the POSCO Act after a Class 2 girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at a village in Manvi taluk. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the RIMS hospital. The culprit was apparently known to the victim’s family.

The victim is undergoing treatment at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences.

The arrested are the culprit Shivanagouda and the school head Raju Talikote. Shivanagouda had taken the girl with him from school, sexually assaulted her and left her near her village. The parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the police naming Raju Talikote also as he allowed Shivanagouda to take the girl from school.

Villagers blocked the Sindhanur-Manvi road in protest on Thursday.

The parents of the victim have demanded the death sentence for the accused and said no other children should suffer such fate. On Thursday, residents of Pothnal blocked the Sindhanur-Manvi road in protest against the sexual assault on the minor girl. They demanded that the culprit be hanged to death and strict action be taken against the school authorities.

The Manvi BEO visited the school and took stock of the situation.

Due to the protest, traffic on the road was held up for some time. The Manvi block education officer also visited the school and took stock of the situation.
