Two arrested for cheating man with fake gold coin

DAVANAGERE: The Honnali police have arrested two people who cheated a person by giving him fake gold coin after exchanging pure gold bars at a low price.

The arrested accused have been identified as Parashurama from Hadonahalli village in Shivamogga and Manoj from Danihalli village in Nyamati. The police seized Rs 5.90 lakh in cash, a mobile phone and a vehicle used in the crime from them.

The suspects had cheated  Murthy  from Kunduru village in Malavalli, Mandya district, by giving him fake gold. The accused told him that they had found gold coins while digging the foundation of a house and offered them at a cheap rate.

Initially, they gave him a genuine gold coin for testing, but during the purchase, they handed over fake coins and took Rs 6 lakh in cash. After realising the fraud, Murthy filed a complaint at Honnali police station. It is also learned that the accused Parashurama had previously been jailed in a case registered at Sagar police station and was later released.
