BENGALURU: The price of essential commodities has been increasing every day over the past two months. While the prices of some items have decreased slightly, the price of some other items have almost doubled.
Due to uncertain rains in the state, the production has fallen drastically and the supply from other states has also reduced. Due to all these reasons, the price of pulses has skyrocketed in the state. This has not only affected the consumers, but also the traders.
Traders say that given the present trend, there is no sign of the prices coming down. Most of the prices are likely to cross Rs 200 in the first week of September.
Cultivation has not been taken up this time in many places due to lack of theexpected monsoon. If it rains in the coming days, it will take at least three months for the market to recover after the harvest. So, till then, there is no other way, but to bear with the price hike, the traders said.
Manjunath, a shop owner, said, “The prices of pulses last week were above Rs 120 per kg, but today they crossed Rs 150. We cannot convince customers. There is a shortfall in dal produce due to the uncertain rain. The prices will keep changing, but we are not making profits. The price of green peas too has touched Rs 100. If we sell it at higher price, people raise questions. If the situation continues this way, it will get worse. Both customers and traders will suffer due to the price hike”.
