BELAGAVI: Trucks carrying perishables and other items have been stuck at the Goa border near Kanakumbi in Khanapur taluk leading to Chorla Ghat since Sunday evening after the neighbouring state banned the entry of heavy vehicles all of a sudden.

While trucks have lined up along the road near Keri checkpost, some are parked in open spaces nearby. The transporters are venting their ire against the Goa authorities for taking such a measure suddenly.

The Ramanagara-Goa road has been closed for the last three years for repair work and truckers used to take the Chorla Ghat road. However, in a notification on dated September 21, 2022, the North Goa DC Mamu Hage has stated that based on the report of the police, movement of heavy vehicles has been restricted on the Keri-Belagavi highway up to March 19, 20023.

Trucks are also parked in open spaces.

Transporters pointed out that travelling via Karwar will be about 250 km longer and have demanded that alternative arrangements be made till the Ramanagara-Goa road is ready.

“The freight charges won’t work out for us if we take a longer route. The trucks are carrying food items, construction material and other stuff. Our drivers have been stranded with the trucks since Sunday night”, truck operators said, venting their ire at the Goa authorities for the sudden move.
