BENGALURU: Planning to rent out your private car with white registration number plates for a few bucks? Think again. The Regional Transport Authority will seize your car and also cancel your driving licence. The authorities have also launched a crackdown on private companies which rent out cars with white registration number plates.

Additional Transport Commissioner C Mallikarjun said, “I have seen companies like Long Drive issuing advertisements about providing white boards vehicles for rent. Private vehicles cannot be used for renting out. We have been repeatedly saying this, but new companies in Bengaluru, in the name of startups, are doing this. If this continues, we will take strict action against them including lodging police complaints. They should operate only within the framework of the laws. Some have taken permits as aggregators, rent-a-cab, etc. Nobody can rent out private vehicles”.

In the state, there are over five lakh vehicle with yellow registration plates. Tourist vehicles are required to pay road taxes, insurance and get fitness certificates at regular intervals which comes to about Rs 1 lakh per year. However, private vehicle owners pay lifetime tax and annual insurance premium and have to renew the registration certificate only after 15 years, he pointed out.

The additional commissioner warned that they will inspect companies hiring out private vehicles and initiate legal action against them if they are found violating the rules.
